A Journey of Chaos

The day when the boundary was chalked on the face of subcontinent everyone was so much busy in setting their own affairs straight that no one was able to hear the flaps of butterfly’s wing that were about to cause a tornado. Instead of discussing the other side of line we will only discuss about our nation. Our birth was an incredible event of history but that was also the day we died. A geographical country opened her eyes but an ideological nation died. That was the moment when the chaos penetrated not only in our society but also in our minds.

We took start from democracy which was not a smooth one. Sometimes top leadership was assassinated and sometimes our politicians were not competent enough to make decisions. To fill the vacuum, military establishment came in and a dictator gifted this country with marshal law and the basic theme was to westernize and brutally bend the basic structure of an ideological state. He was not successful in completely achieving his aim yet he made some disastrous dents.

Meanwhile, our twin state also left no stone unturned to destroy us and resorted towards waging a full fledge war on international borders and it was only a matter of time we overcame all the obstacles. The train was back on track, democratic elections were held and alas! What our democratic leadership did. Just because of personal ego or incompetence we lost our one hand. It was a prominent black spot on our shady history. No option was left but to move on again. The reigns of country were in the hands of democratic leadership. It also accomplished some good tasks like hosting leadership of Muslim world or initiating the atomic program.

Things were coming back to normal but all of a sudden, another coup was in making. A new martial law under the theme of so called “islamisation” was introduced. This change was necessary because the architects were not in a position to sell the previous theme. This de facto sovereign also did some worse things like imposing ban on election of student’s unions in country. Hence the nursery of middle- and working-class leadership was destroyed but it paved the way for feudals, industrialists and the rich. The end to his rule was also a pathetic one.

After him there was again the era of democracy but disqualified, selected and incompetent leaders started pulling each other’s leg and created the desired vacuum for another marshal law and this time they hit the roots of an ideological state with the theme of modernization.  Brutally attacking mosque in the capital with lethal weapons, killing and displacing citizens was a sign that the government is being run by a tyrant. Then the magnificent lawyers’ movement hit the roads of country. Here, again the tide turned in the favour of democracy but this time the political leaders did not make the previous blunder of capturing each other’s government and made a secret pact to give each other a fair chance to complete the tenure.

Till this date two political parties have completed their tenure and the third party which came up with the slogan of change is trying its fate. But still the country is at the crossroads. The clouds of confusion are still hovering in our country. Questions about the future of Pakistan are yet to be answered. So, the political fate of the country still seems to be chaotic. But it is one of the characteristics of the chaos that it ultimately gives birth to new patterns. Positivity can only transpire if we stay attentive, open and conscious to see the potential that lies within the chaos.
